MedTech Quality Assurance Services
Cannon Quality Group (CQG) was founded in 2010 as a full-service outsourced quality management company serving the medical device, Medtech, pharma, IVDR, and life science community with right-sized quality system solutions.
The company has supported over 200 Medtech companies by setting up initial quality systems, performing internal audits, supplier audits, managing document control, performing validations, or serving as a completely outsourced quality department.
Although statistics say most Medtech start-ups fail, 88% of past clients are still in business and 30% have been acquired or gone public.
Cannon Quality Group founder Nicolle Cannon worked as an engineer in medical device companies and grew frustrated with quality systems and quality organizations that did not make sense for the business.
“I observed a great deal of quality organizations who were based in fear of the standards and regulations AND being audited.” Cannon said.” They used this fear to create systems that hinder the business and drive cost up and efficiency down. I was frustrated watching great products that could be helping patients stagnate in systems that did not aid innovation.”
After years of struggling with this, she took the “if you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em approach” and left mechanical engineering to make her mark on the world of quality management systems. She set out in this new role to create quality systems that work for your product, your engineering team, as well as the business.
“I talk to CTOs every day”, Cannon said. “And I say ‘what were things that didn’t work for you?’ There’s nothing worse than killing a concept based on fear.”
Cannon believes Quality is just good scientific process, along with design controls. “If you’re going to purchase somebody’s ideas, you want to make sure you have those ideas in a way that’s both documented but also proven out at some level and in a record. That’s the value.”
This approach has led Cannon Quality Group to 11 years of growth by lowering the cost of innovation for the Medtech industry. The company, now numbering 25 employees, specializes in right-sized quality solutions, streamlining overly burdensome systems, and reducing time to market.
In addition, the company has pioneered the concept of consolidated supplier audits, which saves clients time and money compared to auditing the supplier themselves, and increases efficiency for suppliers by auditing one time on behalf of up to 15-20 clients.
Cannon Quality Group also offers entrepreneurs the Founders Club shared workspace in Redwood City, CA, with workbenches, tools, and a controlled environment room. Here, members have a place in the geographical heart of the medical device innovation and investment industry where they can set up for the day, the week, or just between meetings.
